City Guide Shortlist: Dublin, Ireland – Dame Traveler


Dublin was the very first European city I ever traveled to back in 2010, and it will always hold a special place in my heart for so many reasons. There’s something about this city, the charm, the coziness, the history, the warmth of the people that makes you want to come back again and again.

If you’re planning a trip, save this guide for my favorite places to stay, eat, drink, and wander in Dublin.

Where to Stay in Dublin

The Merrion Hotel

I truly felt like royalty staying at The Merrion Hotel, right in the heart of Dublin. I stayed in a Junior Suite overlooking the government buildings, and waking up to that view felt surreal.

This hotel is iconic. It’s made up of restored Georgian townhouses, and the architecture alone is worth experiencing. There’s a quiet elegance to it—timeless, refined, and deeply Irish.

It’s easily one of the best places to stay in Dublin if you want something central, luxurious, and unforgettable.

Clontarf Castle

Set just outside the city, Clontarf Castle Hotel is the perfect blend of historic charm and modern luxury. Dating back to 1837, the castle has been beautifully restored with stylish interiors while still preserving its original character. It’s an ideal stay if you want a castle experience without venturing far from Dublin, the rooms are sleek and comfortable, and the cozy restaurant and bar make it especially inviting after a day exploring the city.

The Book of Kells

Visit the Book of Kells at Trinity College, one of Ireland’s most famous cultural treasures, it’s a beautiful place to photograph as well. Book your tickets here.

Guinness Storehouse

Visiting the Guinness Storehouse is one of those classic Dublin experiences that’s absolutely worth it. You’ll learn about the history and brewing process before ending at the Gravity Bar, where you can sip a perfectly poured Guinness with panoramic views over the city. Temple Bar

St. Stephen’s Green and Powerscourt Centre

Just a short walk away, Powerscourt Centre is a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse filled with charming boutiques, cafés, and little corners that feel both elegant and uniquely Dublin.

Loose Canon is a hidden gem tucked inside George’s Street Arcade, known for its incredible selection of natural wines and artisanal cheeses. It’s the kind of intimate, low-lit spot you stumble into and end up staying far longer than planned, perfect for a relaxed glass of wine in a uniquely Dublin setting.

Clement & Pekoe

Fallon & Byrne

Fallon & Byrne is one of my favorite spots in Dublin for a casual but elevated meal, with a beautiful food hall upstairs and a cozy wine cellar downstairs. It’s perfect for anything from a quick lunch to a slow glass of wine, and the atmosphere always feels lively yet refined.
